Millions of family pets as well as farm, wild and zoo animals often otherwise physically fit and healthy, are put to death every year to give human companions peace and rest from their incontinence, unruliness, excessive noisiness, aggression, possessiveness, destructiveness or other inconvenience. A behavior problem often becomes a 'terminal disease'. Indeed euthanasia for behavior problems is the main cause of death in young animals, and many people regard it as a treatment. The high cost of veterinary attention also results in many animals being discarded or neglected by their owners. The consequent price of animal suffering, and cost of human regrets and need for welfare services, are incalculable. They are also avoidable. Correcting the behavior problem often saves an animal's life as effectively as surgery or other medical procedures, and greatly reduces the suffering of all concerned. It does not require expensive behavior therapy or extensive behavior modification on the part of the owner. It can be brought about in many cases quite simply and inexpensively through the use of flower essences. This books offers descriptions of each of the 38 Bach Flower Remedies, and their application to the treatment of a range of domestic animals, including horses. It also describes diagnostic symptoms, animal by animal, together with appropriate treatment regimens, illustrated with case material obtained from veterinarians, animal behavior specialists and health practitioners. Other important and helpful areas discussed are: emotions in animals and their influence on behavior the emotional bond between animals and humans the pros and cons of thinking of animals in human terms the principles of flower remedies and their suitability for use in the treatment of animals The book also includes a list of sources of flower remedies.

| Like other reviewers I was so frustrated with the small amount of information for using flower essences for animals. If you could find it only some of the essences were given for certain emotional problems. I have a dog who was snapping at family members without provocation and without warning. He does have hip dysplasia so I attributed it to pain. I tried to minimize his pain with a joint care supplement, occasionally aspirin, and I tried behavioral training, nutritional supplements, nothing had an effect on his unprovoked snapping. Finally I found this book which had complete information on flower essenses so I decided to try them. So far it's been eight months since he started on them and no episodes of snapping since! This book goes over each flower essence, what it can be used to treat, what are some of the symptoms shown by animals that need these essences, which ones can be used together and how to administer them. If you are having a behavior problem with your pet and you have ruled out a physical illness as a cause check out this book. It is an invaluable reference and it may lead you to the answer to your problem. |

| Our family has been using the Bach Flower Remedies for over five years, and I credit them for helping us get over the trauma of a horrible auto accident. The Bach Flower remedies are a group of 38 flower essences that help adjust negative emotional states. We can attest to their potent effects. However, to support our animals, we have had to cobble bits of information together from an array of natural health books for animals, and fill in the blanks from what we could project from guides to people use. This book addresses the use for animals, remedy by remedy, in layers we had not imagined. It is a really easy to follow guide, and is especially useful to help decide which of the "similar" essences are needed. There is also good advice on how to adnimister them. We have really enjoyed this book |

Real-life cues on how to choose remedies to help your animal

| Each of the Bach Flower Essence remedies is described in a section in this book. Following the general description is a section describing the behaviors and characteristics of various species (horse, dog, cat, bird, etc) which are particularly helped by the remedy, along with suggestions for other Flower Essences to use or combine. This is the first book that I turn to when I'm working to select a Bach Flower Essence remedy, because it focusses so well on *animal* issues. |

I have used Bach Flower remedies on myself with great success, so I became interested in trying them on our cat. She is a very nervous animal and spends lots of time just hiding. I read this book cover to cover and it gave me some ideas for how to treat her. She is definitely better since I began adding a drop or two of a remedy to her drinking water.
The book begins with chapters on what Bach Flower remedies are and why they are appropriate for animals. This is followed by an alphabetical list of all the remedies and conditions they may benefit. It is all very easy to understand.
A very useful book. |
